Job Title:Operations Manager

Description: The position is responsible for the supervision of the drivers and dispatch team while ensuring the safe and on-time delivery of freight. Financial business analysis and reporting will also be a core function of the position.


Responsibilities (May include but are not limited to):


  • Provide assistance, management, leadership and support to the dispatch and safety teams.
  • Responsible for monitoring/reducing service failures, and enforcing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Responsible for reporting all key performance indicators through TMW and other means necessary.
  • Manage asset utilization to ensure maximum efficiency as driven by cost and customer needs. This should be achieved by efficient dispatching, maximizing backhaul lanes and communication with maintenance team for scheduled and non-scheduled services.
  • Ensure that all drivers are in compliance with safety department and DOT regulations and promote the company’s safety culture. This includes, but is not limited to: Conducting 90 day reviews, reviewing accidents and incidents on a timely basis, ensuring drivers are in log compliance, and updating driver files in a timely manner.
  • Assist with driver meetings and trainings.
  • Assist in the development of the annual budget.
  • Implement and evaluate driver retention initiatives.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and reporting of cost reduction measures.
  • Assist the safety manager and provide necessary resources for the risk management of the PVS Transportation facilities through the enforcement of DOT, OSHA, Department of Home Land Security, RCMS, and other internal policies.
  • Monitor Drive Cam videos and evaluate data. Utilize Drive Cam to its fullest potential and provide driver training based on the data.
  • Develop and manage a post incident training program.  
  • Responsible for interviewing and hiring qualified driver candidates.
  • Responsible for researching and setting company standards for “Best Practices” within the dispatch department.
  • Assist in determining and setting delivery rates.
  • Award and discipline drivers and dispatch staff as necessary.
  • Promote and maintain positive relationships with the workforce to maintain productivity, driver retention.


  • Uphold the fundamentals of the Nicholson Nine and Responsible Distribution Guiding Principles. Environmental Health, Safety and Security are a responsibility of every PVS Employee.



Supervision Received


Must be disciplined, self-motivated and mentally alert with the ability to work with minimal guidance and supervision to meet corporate objectives and deadlines. Receives direction and guidance from the Vice President

Required Education / Competencies / Equivalent Experience (Prior to hire / transfer):

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university preferred; five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience and three years management experience.
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor, ethical conduct and excellent reputation for integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate, influence and negotiate with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work and set priorities to meet deadlines while working independently.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications; especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.The position is based in Detroit and reports to the Vice President of Transportation.
